If you are from outside Vietnam, you will need to find a flight to Ho Chi Minh City(HCMC),
Vietnam first. Vietnam Airlines offers more than 20 flights from various countries in Asia and Europe, Australia to HCMC.
You will find domestic flight tickets starting from 20 USD departing from: Hanoi (2h), Haiphong (1h 45min), Da Nang (1h20) and Nha Trang (1h). After arriving at Tan Son Nhat aiport, there are 2 options to get to the city centre.
By taxi: Take airport taxi (highly recommend Vinasun) to city centre (District 1). It may cost from 100,000 VND - 150,000 VND ( roughly $5). It’s also helpful and easier to know exactly fee if you use Grab or Uber.
By shuttle bus: From the airport, bus No. 49, bus No. 109 and bus No. 152 will take you to Ben Thanh Market (bus stop on Ham Nghi Street). Bus ticket is about 20,000 VND ($0.9). After arriving at Ben Thanh market, you can choose taxi or Grab/Uber to go to your destination.
There are a lot of trains heading to Southern Vietnam whose final stop is Ho Chi Minh City. It is also a chance for athletes to appreciate the marvelous beauty from the North to the South of Vietnam through the train trip. However, this is a long 36 hours only possible for those athletes with time.
If you are living or traveling in other cities of Vietnam near HCMC, you can go to one of the bus stations or buy the tickets through some of the multiple travel agencies to HCMC.
Athletes, as a rider can also experience the beauty of Vietnam through the road heading to HCMC by themselves or by Easy Riders, local drivers that will ride for you.
The most convenient area for transportation & exploring HCMC is to stay in District 01- the centre of the city. If runners want to stay close to the event site, you can book hotels/homestay though some online channels: booking, agoda, airbnb
